Former Head of Sustainable Finance & Capital Markets ESG Lead, BMO Financial Group

Manju Seal is Founder and Managing Partner of Terra Impact, where she advises boards, C-suite executives, and senior leaders on sustainability strategy, sustainable finance, and credible pathways to long-term value creation.

Her work brings together deep capital markets experience with an understanding of the evolving sustainability landscape. She works with corporations, financial institutions, investors and mission-driven organizations seeking to translate environmental and social priorities into clear strategic and financing approaches. She brings an independent perspective to complex decisions across strategy, sustainability, capital and risk.

Having worked across both the issuer and investor sides of the financial markets, she brings a practical understanding of how sustainability objectives intersect with corporate strategy, financing decisions, investor expectations and market realities. Her perspective connects sustainable finance with strategic and financing considerations across energy and infrastructure, industrial transition, resource efficiency, resilience and nature-related solutions.

Manju is particularly experienced in sustainable debt and capital mobilization, with expertise spanning green, social, sustainability, transition and sustainability-linked financing. She also advises across the U.S.-India corridor, reflecting longstanding experience across both markets and broader engagement across Asia.

Previously, Manju was BMO Financial Group's inaugural Head of Sustainable Finance and Capital Markets ESG Lead, having joined the bank as its first sustainable finance banker. She established and led Sustainable Finance Advisory for corporate and institutional clients and helped build sustainable finance as a new line of business within BMO Capital Markets. She led the launch of BMO's Sustainable Bond Program, including its inaugural US$500 million sustainability bond, co-authored the Sustainable Financing Framework, and was a key contributor to the firm's global sustainable finance commitment. She also served on BMO's firmwide Sustainability Council and participated in working groups, including ICMA and CSA.

Earlier in her career, she worked at Goldman Sachs in FICC Structured Finance, with a focus on securitization, and later led Fixed Income Risk & Performance Analytics at Goldman Sachs Asset Management, providing a strong capital markets and risk management foundation for her subsequent work in investment management and sustainable finance.

Beyond financial markets, Manju has more than two decades of leadership and governance experience with nonprofits and social enterprises addressing environmental and societal challenges. She is a Marshall Memorial Fellow, Board President Emerita of Narika, former inaugural Executive Director of Singapore-based LEAP201, and a board director of Proximity Designs.

Manju draws on her multidisciplinary academic background combined with deep experience spanning buy-side and sell-side financial markets, sustainable finance leadership, investment management, and nonprofit governance to help boards and senior leaders evaluate complex sustainability and financing decisions through the lenses of strategy, risk, and long-term value creation.

She is a frequent speaker and moderator at industry forums, contributing perspectives on capital allocation, sustainability, risk and governance.
